Oaklea farm is owned and operated by Ken Grant, a retired accountant and a former C.S.H.S. and Standardbred Canada director and Dr. David Grant an equine veterinarian with a particular interest in standardbred reproduction and racetrack practices. Together with his wife Ann, Dr. Grant lives at the farm and oversees its daily operations.
Established in 1988, Oaklea Farm was founded with the objective of assembling a small, quality group of well-bred trotting mares capable of producing racing stock for the Ontario Sires Stakes and Grand Circuit programs and beyond. With this in mind we purchased a 100 acre parcel of land near Simcoe, Ontario and constructed a farm that would afford a high degree of spaciousness for the Oaklea mares and the subsequent yearlings and foals.
All yearlings bred and raised at the farm bear the prefix " Oaklea " ; this was the name of the road in Cheshire,England that was the birthplace and childhood home of Eileen Grant, Ken's wife.
In order to achieve our goals we focus our attention at OAKLEA on providing an ideal enviroment for horses including abundant pasture , top quality hay and a scientifically formulated ration. We allow our yearlings to exercise freely in our fields right up until sales time so that they achieve maximum physical development and hardiness before undergoing the expert guidance and training at their new home.
To date ,we have been rewarded for our efforts by top performers like World Champion OAKLEA COUNT 1.52.1, and multiple stake and Grand Circuit winners OAKLEA BLUEJAY and OAKLEA JULIAN , amongst many others from only a handful of yearlings produced annually.
More recently OAKLEA OMEGA 2,2:002s ($78,993), OAKLEA ODESSA 2, 2:001h ($99,799) and OAKLEA OPAL 2,1:58.3s ($137,799) put in stakes performances during the 2005 season.
